You cannot change your equipment in a dungeon, so make sure you're using the right gear and secondary weapons before you leave town. Same goes for your quickslots.
Be careful you can't bring more potions with you into dungeons! Even if you have a thousand HP Potions in your Storage Chest, you can only take a limited number with you into dungeons.
[Improve your Gear ] You can Enhance your equipment for bonus stats by talking to Ferghus at the Forge.
Your broken armor will automatically be fixed once you return to town. Ferghus used to do it, but I hear he almost got ran out of town for doing such a shoddy job! Oh, and there's a difference between "REPAIRING broken armor" (automatically happens once you leave a dungeon) and "RESTORING the Condition of your armor" (something you must ask Ferghus to do)!
[ Armor Proficiency Skills ] Rank up your Armor Proficiency skills to increase the durability of your armor.
Condition and Deterioration
When your equipment suffers damage on the battlefield, its Condition decreases. You can fix this by going to the Forge and asking Ferghus to restore your gear. However, as you fix your gear, the overall quality of your gear Deteriorates, making future restorations more difficult and hence, more costly.
When an item is in poor Condition, it will look tarnished and get damaged more easily. It may even become unequippable. You can improve the Max Condition of an item by enhancing it at the Forge. (Remember, RESTORING gear in poor Condition is different from REPAIRING broken gear. Broken gear is automatically repaired once you leave a dungeon or when you use an Armor Repair Kit in a dungeon.)
[ Condition ] The more you use an item, the lower its Condition. Ferghus can restore the Condition of your items to full at the Forge.
[ Deterioration ] Every time you fix an item, you increase its Deterioration amount. Higher Deterioration means you have to pay higher prices to restore your gear.
Don't try to equip gear that's heavier than you can handle. Light and heavy armor weigh more than cloth armor, and plate armor is tough to use at all without Plate Armor Proficiency! You'll get a movement and battle penalty if you're overburdened.
You will hindered from doing many things if your equipment is too heavy, but there are two ways around this... You can lighten your equipment through enhancing or you can train yourself to become more proficient. Don't forget, your weapon also weighs something.
[ Light Armor Proficiency ] Decreases the weight of light armor.
[ Heavy Armor Proficiency ] Decreases the weight of heavy armor.
NPCs can craft items for you. Press [Craft] when talking to an NPC to see what materials you need. Currently, Ferghus at the Forge, Kirstie at the Traveler's Shop, and Clodagh at the General Store can all craft items.
The materials needed to craft an item depends on the item. Some items require just two materials. Others may require four or more!
[ Materials ] The various materials you need to craft new items can be obtained off monsters or purchased in shops.
Obtaining Ores (with Mine Bombs)
[ Mine Bombs ] Us them you can get Iron Ores, Copper Ores, Silver Ores... Ferghus is always in need of ores, so collect as many as you can for him.
These bombs also inflict some damage on monsters.
Long Hammer (Fiona)
Fiona can eventually learn how to wield a long hammer, which gives her a whole new arsenal of attacks. Long hammers are slower than longswords but are more powerful and have a wider range of attack.
Ferghus at the Forge can craft them. But before you can equip a long hammer, you must first learn the Long Hammer Mastery skill, which Marrec will give you when he feels the time is right!
[Long Hammer Mastery Skill ] This skill reduces the weight of equipped long hammers. It also lets you use higher level long hammers.
Twin Spears (Lann)
Lann can eventually learn how to wield a twin spear. A twin spear is most often separated into two pieces, with one piece held in each hand, but it can be combined into a single, double-bladed spear to perform a powerful smash attack. Twin spears are fast and have a wide range, but they have a low chance of knocking down enemies.
It didn't mean twin spears were more advanced than twin swords.
The two weapons are on the same level. It's just that twin swords are more balanced, providing both offensive and defensive capabilities, whereas twin spears focus primarily on the offensive. If you have a party to defend you, twin spears can be devastating.
[ Fury Infusion Skill ] Press [A] while wielding twin spears to unleash the Fury Infusion skill. By infusing your own HP into the weapon, it gains more ATT and a higher chance to get critical hits.
